2014
La Carrera Panamericana
2014 LCP OVERVIEW
Veracruz to Durango
2014 was arguably the toughest weather conditions in the history of the race. With two offshore hurricanes, the severe rain and fog made it nearly impossible to drive the first several days and many drivers refused to race - choosing rather to trailer their cars with hopes of better driving conditions the following day. Many of the drivers that did race, chose caution over speed or found themselves in off-road excursions. (This year’s race competitors suffered a 50% attrition.) But Renée and Roberto decided to push the limits and be aggressive. In addition to the risky beginning, there was another danger awaiting them. 2014’s route had added El Espinazo del Diablo (the Devil’s Backbone) in Durango, Mexico - known as one of the most dangerous driving roads in the world. After a two hour predawn drive to reach the race sections, competitors sped their way through the Sierra Madre mountains testing their daring and stamina. Valkyrie Racing finished with a phenomenal 14th overall place and podiumed 2nd in their class! And for the second year in a row, Renée was the only woman to compete in and finish La Carrera Panamerican as a driver.
